Georgie, closeup

Georgie was created to be a centerpiece doll for the 2003 International Fashion Doll Convention to be held in Dallas Texas. The idea was to dress the doll as if she were going to the Academy awards. The theme colors are black, red and gold. While I am not one for the creation of Haute Couture, I did have fun with this one in many ways.

This is actually Georgie's second dress as the first one, created entirely of red satin, frayed at several seams in spite of my use of fray check. I had to take the entire dress apart and remake it. I decided to only use the red satin fabric for the bodice and on the shoulder wrap. Checking my fabric stash I came up with a piece of velvety fabric in black and decided it would be perfect to finish the rest of the gown. I actually like the second version better then the original.

Tiny gold seed beads and small red glass beads make up the jewelry and gown embellishments. I added a double 'belt' and a bit of simple beading to the slits at the sides of the dress just to jazz the gown up a bit.

Besides a new outfit and new jewelry, Georgie received a complete makeover. She now has lovely blue-violet eyes and shimmering red lips.
